Join the effort to
preserve valuable Arizona news film footage
Community volunteers sought for
upcoming 2007 workdays scheduled for July 10, August 14 and
August 28 at the
Arizona Historical Society
Papago Park Museum in Tempe
Arizona history enthusiasts are needed to
assist with an important film preservation project. Volunteers
are needed to clean and inventory thousands of cans of 16mm film
holding KOOL-TV news and documentary footage. The videotapes are
archived at the AHS Museum at Papago Park in Tempe. Volunteers
are invited to sign up for one or more workdays
scheduled for 2007: July 10, August 14 and August 28.
The KOOL-TV collection includes news and documentary footage
from the late 1960s and 1970s. During that time, KOOL News was
the most watched newscast in Phoenix. The collection is an
irreplaceable record of the newsmakers, social events, fashions
and sports as they were shown on KOOL News.
Individuals interested in volunteering can contact David Tatum
at Arizona Historical Society (AHS) Tempe: 480-929-0292, ext.
130. The volunteer workdays will be held at the AHS Tempe Museum
at Papago Park, 1300 North College Avenue in Tempe. Free parking
is available.
